Free & Cheap Homeschool Curriculum: The Best Resources for every budget

So 14 years ago when I started homeschooling, I didn’t have a big budget to buy homeschool material.  We’ve always lived on one income, my husbands, and back then we were definitely living paycheck to paycheck.  So when we decided we would homeschool our daughter (we only had one back then), we needed to get creative when it came to our kindergarten homeschool curriculum!  Homeschooling doesn’t have to drain your wallet.  With so many free and low-cost resources out there, you can give your kids a rich education without feeling like you need a second mortgage.  The key is knowing where to look!  Here are some of the best options for families who want quality curriculum without the high price tag!

Free Online Curriculum:

  • Easy Peasy All in One Homeschool

    • a full, free Christian-based curriculum covering all grades and core subjects.  Everything is laid out online, day by day

  • Khan Academy

    • Free math, science, history, and even test prep taught through engaging video lessons.  Great as a supplement or even a full math track.

  • Ck-12 Foundation:

• • Free digital textbooks, interactive lessons, and practice problems across STEM and more. Whenrong Christian foundation for our daughter before sending her out into the world.  That may not be you, but write your “why” down. Post it on your fridge.  On hard days— go back to it and remind yourself that your decision has purpose.

  • IXL ($9.95/month per subject or $19.95/month for all: Comprehensive math, language arts, science, and social studies practice with progress tracking

  • Libby (free): Public library app for ebooks and audiobooks.  Works like a free curriculum booster if your library participates.

  • Homer Reading ($9.99/month) fun phonics based reading program for ages 2-8

You don’t need to spend thousands to homeschool well.  With creativity, resourcefulness, and a little research, you can piece together a full and rich curriculum that works for your family.  Whether you lean heavily on free digital resources or mix in low cost curriculum, remember: it’s not the price tag that makes homeschooling effective, it’s how you use the resources AND making it a fun, enjoyable, learning environment!  You got this!

Until next time friend,
